Windmills and solar power~Nature Notes~021612
As I drove out toward Palm Springs and Desert Hot Springs last Monday, I discovered that there is also a solar power station now. I didn't even know it was there! It isn't a big one, like the one in the high desert, near Kramer Junction, but I was glad to see it right next to the wind turbines. I also didn't realize how much NOISE the wind turbines make! I stopped at one point near Highway 62, which leads up to Morongo Valley, and the noise was overwhelming! I also discovered that the Guide Dogs of the Desert property is out in that area. I remember driving out in these parts as a kid with my parents. There were no windmills then...just open desert. Nature Notes for February 16, 2012. I love these photos....the clouds are great and the windmills, too.
I love this area of the desert. The windmills give it a strange look, but also something to keep the drive interesting:) Your headline shot is beautiful.
I thought those wind turbines would be noisy.
I didn't know they made noise. We have one not too far from here but I haven't been out there yet..I love solar power and it doesn't kill so many birds and bats as wind towers do...Michelle
