desert rain

I took this photo on Wednesday morning, when I was out for my morning walk.  Yes, it's raining, but the rain isn't hitting the ground.  It was evaporating.  Another blogger, Gaelyn, told me this is called virga. Thank you, Gaelyn!  I see this frequently around the desert here and in Arizona. Isn't it pretty?

I especially like virga as I can watch the rain, but not get wet. ;)

Ha! I have a pic I just took recently of this kind of thing...didn't know there was a term for it. My pic looks very similar to yours.

That must have been the edge of the Wednesday rain we had in the Inland So Cal valley areas! I also love the way it feels when a cloud front produces virga, still able to feel the ozone from the changes and smell the dampness yet not get wet!
I came here by way of the Owl's Farm blog and I am glad I did!
