Deserts and Beyond

Deserts and beyond...places in and around the southern California deserts and beyond. Photo taken at Canyon Lake, in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, December 2011. A few minutes later, after the sun disappeared, these cliffs were their normal color. They were only golden for a short time and I'm glad we were able to view them in their glory.

Palms and sky~SkyWatch Friday~081211

A view of palm trees and our sky today.  It was so nice to have some clouds!  We've had over a week of clear, blue skies, but now some monsoon moisture is moving into the Coachella Valley, bringing clouds with it.  SkyWatch Friday for August 12, 2011.  To visit SkyWatch Friday, please go to:  http://skyley.blogspot.com/

do you get dates from these palms, or are they ornamental only

Those palm trees seem to be happy to mingle with the clouds. Makes me want to see palm trees for real once again.

These at the Marriott are ornamental only. As you can see, they trim them regularly. However, down the valley, in Indio, Coachella, and Thermal, and places south, they do grow date palms. Have you ever eaten a date? They are yummy! I used to give them to Sunni, my horse (pitted...). I figure, if the Arabs (horses) survived on dates, he could, too! Sometimes I put a couple of dates in my morning smoothie.
