Coachella Valley table grapes
After school on Friday, I went out looking to see what was growing in the Coachella Valley. I drove past the vineyards where some of California's table grapes are ripening in the sun. They are still infants, but with our warm temps and sunny days, they will soon be ready for the markets. Yum, yum! Unfortnately, this day was also tinged with sadness. A young woman from Indio was found dead right by this vineyard. Police are still investigating her death and I did NOT get out of my car to take these photos. I would have a year ago, but not now. And, I noticed a significant presence of ranch managers with pickups. A body was also found in another vineyard down by Thermal, so I'm not sure what's going on. I'll continue to watch the fields, but I will also stay in my car.

Makes you wonder what else is being grown here that needs protecting to the point of murder. Please be careful, even in the car, with doors locked.
a sad commentary of our times...do stay in your car!
