Lupines~Nature Notes~March 8, 2012
There aren't many lupines this winter here in the desert or up in our local mountains. Last year and especially the year before, there were a LOT of them. This year, I only counted 3 very small patches of them last weekend. I pulled over at one spot that had a lot last year and there were only a few scraggly ones trying to survive. We just haven't had the rainfall that we've had the previous two winters. It's pretty disappointing, but there are plenty of other colorful blossoms in the desert to appreciate. Nature Notes for March 8, 2012.

Lupines remind me of lavender from a distance---so delicate looking.
beautiful. our bluebonnets are growing along the driveway, but i'm not sure we'll get the bounty we had last spring, just due to the drought.
