Deserts and Beyond

Deserts and beyond...places in and around the southern California deserts and beyond. Photo taken at Canyon Lake, in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, December 2011. A few minutes later, after the sun disappeared, these cliffs were their normal color. They were only golden for a short time and I'm glad we were able to view them in their glory.

Trees and sky at Minaret Vista~~SkyWatch Friday~~092211

Another find in my search for bare trees!  These were up at the Minaret Vista, above Mammoth Mountain.  We arrived there late in the afternoon and the view of the Minarets was awful, so I turned around and found these trees!  SkyWatch Friday for September 22, 2011. Well, I love today's photo, but you knocked my socks off with that banner shot of Mt. Whitney! I was born under that mountain, and it's been a sort of personal icon ever since. This shot is one of the best I've ever seen, though--so thanks for posting both.

Ha..I know that exact spot and no, the view of the Minarets is not really that great from there. Minaret Falls, on the other hand, down inside the Devil's Postpile, is definitely worth finding if you get a chance. Rainbow Falls too.
