Mountains and church~That's My World 020910

This interesting-looking church is going up along the street I take out to the freeway and I see it every morning. It has been so darn cloudy and rainy here lately that I haven't had an opportunity to stop and take some photos of it, that is until this weekend. I FINALLY had a chance to get out early in the morning, with the sunrise behind me, and take some photos! This one is difficult to shoot. There is no parking lot yet for it, so I just stopped on the main street (there were no cars behind me) and I took some quick photos! Phew! I love how you can view the top of it against our local mountains. That's My World for Tuesday, February 9, 2010.

Fence and sand dune~Mellow Yellow Monday 020810

I drove out to Bermuda Dunes this weekend, after another round of rain here in our desert. It rained on and off all day Saturday and another storm is heading our way Tuesday evening. We should have a beautiful wildflower show in another month, with all this rain! I can't wait. I spotted a few wildflowers growing already, but next month, the dunes should be covered with flowers. In the meantime, this sand dune and fence provided some relief in the desert. They had a yellowish tinge to them amid the gray skies. Mellow Yellow Monday for February 8, 2010.

Ocotillos after the rain~Scenic Sunday 020710

Well, my computer is KAPUT, but I did manage to take some pics yesterday and upload them on hubby's laptop. He has an external hard drive, which we will both have to use from now on. So, yesterday, between storms, I ventured out and about our desert. I went up to the Santa Rosa Mountains Visitor Center, a favorite spot of mine. I love to wander there and just smell the desert's smells after a rain! And, I wasn't the only person out & about! While this ocotillo wasn't blooming yet, I liked looking at it and the rain clouds behind it. Scenic Sunday for February 7, 2010.

Computer problems

Well, it looks like my desktop computer, with ALL my photos, finally crashed. It just won't boot up. We have tried and tried. So, next week, hubby will drop it off at the computer shop and the techs will try to remove all my documents and photos and load them onto an external hard drive. In the meantime, I'm using hubby's laptop. Next weekend we are driving up to the eastern Sierras for 3 days, so I'll get some new photos...hopefully some of the Sierras with snow! Thanks for stopping by and I'll update when I can.

Who came this way? Footprints in the snow~This Way Thursday Feb 4, 2010

Hubby and I arrived up at the ranch in the mountains where we board our horses a couple of weekends ago, right after our 5 days of storms. There was about 6-8 inches of snow there. Last year they only had a light dusting of snow, nothing like this! I wandered around with my camera, looking for footprints and tracks in the snow and I found these. I wonder who/what made them? This Way Thursday for February 4, 2010.

Bougenvilla~Ruby Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Here in the desert, even in the middle of winter, our bougenvillas are in full bloom. And, look at the colorful blossoms on these! Also, my sunflowers continue to bloom and grow. Yesterday afternoon I planted a package of California poppies and African daisies out in our back yard, along the chain link fence. Ruby Tuesday for February 2, 2010.

Sunflower and bees~Macro Monday for February 1, 2010

I have a row of sunflowers out in our front yard. There used to be a eucalyptus tree out there, but a couple of years ago, during one Spring wind storm, it toppled over and took out a chunk of our fence. Our son came out and repaired the fence, but I was left looking at a large, barren spot. So, last year I planted mammoth sunflowers along the fence. They quickly grew and towered over 7 feet tall! They went to seed and I collected the seeds and I replanted them in December. This crop isn't as tall, but they are blooming already. I went out Friday afternoon, after school, and took this photo. The bees were busy pollinating the flowers and the birds will move in and eat the seeds after they dry out. Macro Monday for February 1, 2010. Enjoy your day!
