Hubby and I LOVE to visit the Grand Canyon! We've been to both the north and south rims. If we visit the south rim, we stay either in Williams, AZ or Prescott. If we visit the north rim, it is a day's trip from St. George. These pics are from our visit in 2008. We took our son, Hal, with us, and Claudia, too. Right after we took these photos, we saw a herd of elk in the forest next to the road that runs along the rim of the canyon. Hubby and I first visited the Grand Canyon in 1977, when we had our VW camper. We camped several nights in the campground there along the rim. I remember seeing deer at that time and there weren't any trams...you could just drive all the way along the rim. Now, you have to park and hop on a tram to see most of the canyon. If you go in the summertime, be sure to bring lots of water, a hat, and sunscreen! We walked from the parking area to the second pick up point one time and I nearly fainted! Of course, it was 30 years after our first trip~! Guess I'm getting OLD!!! Also, this was after my dismount from a friend's horse, when I tweeked by L4 and L5 vertebrae and suffered two slipped discs! No wonder I couldn't walk as well as I used to. But, a friendly reminder~~the altitude CAN get to you!!!ABC Wednesday for March 3, 2010.
