This Way Thursday 120309~Bear Sign

Hubby and I came across this sign as we were driving up the Mt. Whitney Portal road in June. While we didn't see any bears (it was late afternoon), we discovered that the portal campground and picnic ground contained metal food bins for food storage, to discourage bear encounters. This Way Thursday for December 3, 2009.

I remember I ran into a different sign in Australia which warned of crocodiles in the area! We saw the sign AFTER we emerged from the rainforest... Ha! :)

That's actually a pretty good idea, metal food bins. I think I read that some people hang their food from a tree, but don't bears climb? Anyway, good to see you playing again this week - thanks!

Wow how brave of you to walk along that area, I would be so scared just at the sight of that sign! Thanks for sharing.

We had a flat tire beside a sign like that this summer. I kept watch while my husband worked on the tire! Big of me, huh? They might be hibernating by now, though...or maybe not? This is what makes the wilderness so exciting!
