When we drove home from the Sierras last weekend, we stopped in Lone Pine and drove out to the Alabama Hills. The Sierras were nearly totally hidden by clouds and they looked so mysterious, especially with the rocks of the Alabama Hills in the foreground. SkyWatch Friday for October 22, 2010.

I wanted to stop there too, but, we didn't. I have seen some photos of this place at sunset, etc; where the scene was shot through "windows" or holes in the rocks. I would love to wander around and find those places to give those kinds of shots a try...maybe in the spring??? We must have been in the Lone Pine area about 11 a.m. on Monday...bet we were very close together on 395.
