Deserts and Beyond

Deserts and beyond...places in and around the southern California deserts and beyond. Photo taken at Canyon Lake, in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, December 2011. A few minutes later, after the sun disappeared, these cliffs were their normal color. They were only golden for a short time and I'm glad we were able to view them in their glory.

Sprinklers~Watery Wednesday~060811

I've been doing my morning walk at the city golf resort and yesterday morning, the sprinklers were still on. I was about 15 minutes earlier than my usual time and I'm glad I had the chance to see them. I even caught a couple of rainbows. The golf resort does have a couple of water courses and I frequently stop by them and walk down through the palms to see the ducks. One morning, a coyote crossed the dirt road ahead of me and went down there and I heard, "Quack, quack, quack, quack, quack!" and then a rustle, rustle and all was quiet. I guess he got his breakfast! Watery Wednesday for June 8, 2011. To view other participants, please go to: http://waterywednesday.blogspot.com/

I know that some people think that it's a waste of natural resources to water in the desert, but I have to say that these little (or big) oases brighten up an otherwise foreboding landscape.

RED SKY IN MORNING

Red sky in morning,
Sailors take warning!

Who knows what might happen out on the sea?
Waves riding high,
Waves to the sky,
Waves crashing and dashing all over me!

Red sky at night,
Sailors delight!

Leeward or windward we sail with no fear;
Water is calm,
Healing like balm—
Ahoy, fellow sailors, landfall is near!
