Deserts and Beyond

Deserts and beyond...places in and around the southern California deserts and beyond. Photo taken at Canyon Lake, in the Superstition Mountains of Arizona, December 2011. A few minutes later, after the sun disappeared, these cliffs were their normal color. They were only golden for a short time and I'm glad we were able to view them in their glory.

Rancho Carrillo fences~Friday's Fences~112913

We were lucky this week to have the time to visit the Leo Carrillo Ranch, which is near San Marcos, CA.  It is closed on Mondays, but we stopped there Sunday.  It's a BEAUTIFUL ranch, so if you have time, look it up and visit it!  I especially love the old adobe houses and its beautiful, old, long barn.  I was intrigued by all the fences there and I tried to capture as many of them as I could, so here they are!  :-)  Friday's Fences for November 29, 2013.   To visit Friday's Fences, please go to:   http://lifeaccordingtojanandjer.blogspot.com/

Dana Point~Our World Tuesday~112613

Even as a Native Californian, I had never been to Dana Point.  At least I don't remember ever going there, so yesterday hubby and I headed to the point.  First, we drove around the Ocean Institute.  Then, we drove up the hill to the cliffs above the point.  From there, you can take a nature walk down to the edge of the cliff and look out over the ocean.  You have to stay on the trail as it is bound by metal railings.  Rattlesnakes are in the area, too, and there are signs warning people to stay ON the trail.  Yeah, like I'm going to go off into the brush?  NOooooooo.....Finally, we drove back down to the island and watched the pelicans dive for fish.  They are fun to watch because as soon as they come back up, they are mobbed by seagulls, who are trying to get their fish!  It was an interesting morning, but the hike to the edge of the cliff pretty much did me in!  After fighting pneumonia 4x now and having chronic bronchitis, I was out of breath after the hike!   To visit Our World Tuesday, please go to:   http://ourworldtuesdaymeme.blogspot.com/

Carillo Ranch~Whimsical Windows, Delirious Doors~112413

Hubby and I stopped at the Leo Carrillo Ranch today and got there when it opened at 11:00 a.m.  We walked around the ranch and stopped at several buildings, like this delightful one.  Don't you love its windows?  I love the early California architecture.  I grew up not far from the Los Angeles County Arboretum where the Hugo Reid adobe still stands.  The Carrillo Ranch is another great place to visit, if you enjoy seeing those kinds of old adobe buildings.  WWDD for November 24, 2013.  To visit WWDD, please go to:  http://iwishiwereaphotographer.blogspot.com/2013/11/whimsical-windows-delirious-doors-104.html

Laguna Beach~Sunset Sunday~112413

Hubby and I stopped by Laguna Beach late this afternoon, after a run up to Whole Foods to grab dinner.  We parked and only had to wait a few minutes before the sun sank behind the ocean.  Sunset Sunday for November 24, 2013.  To visit Sunset Sunday, please go to:   http://www.scottlawphotography.com/2013/11/sunset-sunday-144.html

Long shadows in corridor~Shadow Shot Sunday~112413

I took this photo last October when hubby and I stopped at the Wapatki ruins, which are to the east of Arizona's Sunset Crater.  Hubby had wandered out to the car.  Shadow Shot Sunday for November 24, 2013.  To visit SSS, please go to:  http://shadowshotsunday2.blogspot.com/

Temecula metal horses

No, they aren't real.  These are metal horse sculptures located along Highway 79 between Anza and Temecula!  It was a beautiful day yesterday, after our "winter" storm, so we headed down to Temecula.  I saw these along the road and stopped to take these photos, and another car stopped, too.

Orange flowers and lights~Orange You Glad Its Friday~112213

Sorry for being AWOL.  I had parent conferences this week and I've been so busy and so exhausted!  But, now that it is Friday afternoon and my LONG week is over, I'm free to catch up!

I went to our city's park a few weekends ago and saw these orange flowers against the lamp post there and took this photo.  Today it is drizzly and raining and cold, so I'm at home, staying warm!  No going out for me this afternoon...no, no, no!

Coming home~SkyWatch Friday~110813

Sorry guys...we've been without Internet service for nearly two weeks while Time Warner tried to figure out the problem...5 techs later, this guy FINALLY ran a new cable from the pole out back to the house.  Now we are up & running!  While this is a temporary fix, and a crew of two maintenance guys will have to return to properly run it, at least for now I can upload photos!  Phew!  This was looking down into the Coachella Valley when we returned two weekends ago from our Arizona trip.  SkyWatch Friday for November 8, 2013.  To visit SWF, please go to:   http://skyley.blogspot.com/
